Our Mission

The History Museum of Mobile collects, preserves, safeguards, and interprets over 117,000 objects – artifacts that hold vital information about Mobile and the surrounding area’s pasts, constitute the City of Mobile’s cultural heritage, and will continue to be invaluable sources for present and future generations of citizens. Through programs, publications, and exhibitions of enduring quality, the Museum encourages discovery and understanding of our shared history.

We believe in the power of stories to shape and define the future. We believe history should be participatory, engaging our youngest and oldest visitors in thoughtful – and often playful! – ways. And acknowledging the diverse experiences of Mobilians, we believe the Museum must tell all the stories of Mobile.
